What Are The Courses Requirements At WSU 2026-2027

Students applying to study at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) must meet the minimum admission requirements specified by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the university’s qualification-specific criteria, as detailed below:

Higher Certificate Courses

  • The basic admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of instruction at the higher education institution, as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council. Some programs may also require specific subject combinations or higher achievement levels.

Diploma Courses:

  • To qualify for a diploma program, applicants need an NSC with a minimum of 30% in the language of instruction and an achievement rating of 3 (40-49%) or higher in at least four recognized 20-credit subjects, excluding Life Orientation.
  • Additional subject combinations or performance levels may be required for certain programs.

Bachelor’s Degree:

  • For admission to a bachelor’s degree program, candidates must hold an NSC with a minimum of 30% in the language of instruction and an achievement rating of 4 (50-59%) or better in at least four recognized 20-credit subjects, excluding Life Orientation. Specific programs may have additional requirements.

International School Leaving Results:

  • Applicants with international school-leaving qualifications will be evaluated based on the Higher Education South Africa (HESA) guidelines outlined in the document A Guide to Application for Exemption Certificates. If necessary, qualifications must be submitted to SAQA for benchmarking under HEQC standards. WSU’s International Office is available to assist these applicants.
