How do I apply online?
To apply online, you need:
- Access to the internet and a valid email address;
- To complete the application accurately online;
- To specify the names of your first and second choice degrees (if applicable);
- Pay the R300 non-refundable application fee; and
Upload the following documents:
- Certified copy of your ID or passport
- Certified copies of your academic records
- Proof of payment of the application fee
- Certified copies of your Grade 11 results or National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- Proof of re-writing if you’re rewriting your NSC
- Certified copies of your degree certificates
- Proof of payment for application
How To Apply As an International Student
All non-South African citizens and non-permanent residents are required to:
- submit the documents mentioned in number (e) above;
- submit previous foreign qualifications that have been evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
- Obtain study permits before registering as a student. Application for study permits should be submitted to the Department of Home Affairs (South Africa), Consulate or High Commissioner in your country of residence/origin, and should be in favour of Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU). The study permit should be submitted during registration.
Application Procedure And Requirements For Study Visa
- An application form obtainable from Home Affairs,
- A valid passport (for a year or more),
- Admission letter from the University,
- A letter from the institution in support of your study visa (International office),
- Bank statement – Copy of passport or I.D of parent or guardian responsible for the financial support and a supporting letter,
- A study visa fee of R425-00,
- Provide proof of medical aid coverage confirming that you will be covered while in SA. Medical reports (including Radiology & Pathology).
- A police clearance certificate from your country of origin,
- Repatriation fee of R585-00,
- Copy of yellow fever vaccination (If relevant),
- If an applicant is under 21 years old, there should be a letter of consent from the parent or guardian.
