A space that is thoughtfully mapped to foster an energetic and inclusive living environment for students. As a proud extension of our commitment to excellence and innovation, this new residence offers more than a place to stay, it is a home from home where friendships are formed, ideas are shared, and personal growth takes center change. Situated within a dynamic campus setting, the new residence combines modern architecture with practical functionality.

Each room is styled to meet the needs of today’s students, providing comfort and a conducive atmosphere for both academic success and relaxation. Beyond the individual spaces, the shared areas are built to encourage community interaction, with features like cozy furniture, group study rooms, and state-of-the-art facilities that promote collaboration and connection.

The institution of Nelson Mandela University possesses three residences which are listed below

2nd Avenue Campus
South Campus
North Campus

How To Apply For On-Campus Residence At Nelson Mandela University(NMU)

Applicants need to be welcomed by the faculty before they can be qualified for consideration for on-campus residence
The deadline date for the University(Nelson Mandela University) is the end of September each year
Your application for on-campus residence will be recognized, but this does not mean you’ve gained space at the residence
All freshmen are required to share the same space
Applicants are chosen within the same faculty to promote shared academic interest and foster opportunities for peer learning
Nelson Mandela University does not take responsibility for students’ assets. Students are advised to secure insurance to protect against any risks
Applicants with high AS(Applicant Score) will be given precedence. If multiple applicants have the same Applicant Score, preference will be based on attendance at Quintile 1, 2, and 3(no-fee) schools
Precedence will be given to applicants residing outside the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality(NMBM) for Port Elizabeth campuses and outside the George Municipality for George Campus
Applicants who are received due to full on-campus residences will be placed in our accredited off-campus residences

Residence Application For Freshmen

For the time being you will have received an SMS notifying you of your academic and /or residence status. If you have received such an SMS about your residence on and off campus please take note of the following

Off-campus residents go through an accreditation once this procedure has been successful
On that account, you will be placed in a specific residence once this procedure has been successful
You are welcome to browse through the website to see the residence offering then once it has been approved. For more details, you can contact them through email at residenceadmission@mandela.ac.za or you can call the office landline at 041 504 4736/4735

In receiving the offer you will be admitted into a residence in a state that:

You have been officially accepted academically at Nelson Mandela University
Your funding (NSFAS or Bursary) has been confirmed
You do not reside within the Nelson Mandela Metro(Gqeberha/Kariega). Please note that students from the Nelson Mandela Metro now qualify for accredited off-campus accommodation

Residence Application For Returning or Senior Students

You have to finalize your last academic year
You have to be confirmed for the next academic year at Nelson Mandela University
Your funding (Bursary or NSFAS) has been verified
You do not reside within the Nelson Mandela Metro (PE/Uitenhage/ Despatch). Please note students from the Nelson Mandela Metro now qualify for accredited off-campus accommodation or residence

Fees Per Residence For Students At Nelson Mandela University

Upon enrollment, residence fees are raised per semester for the full academic year. The residence fees cover only the academic semester and exclude the winter and summer break periods.

Residence fees do not include a provision of meals. Enrollment changes are dependent on the previous semester’s residence fees being paid in full. Late occupancy credit will only be scrutinized on verification from the Student Housing Management provided that the room was not reserved for the student and that all required down payments have been paid.
