How Long Before Facebook Permanently Delete Your Account?

If you are considering taking a break from social media or deciding to leave Facebook for good, understanding the account deletion process is crucial for making an informed decision. Once you request to delete your account, Facebook provides a 30-day grace period before it is permanently erased, during which your account is deactivated and inaccessible to others.

After this period, Facebook begins removing your information, and it can take up to 90 days to delete everything you have posted. Once the deletion process is complete, your account and all its data, including posts, photos, messages, and settings, are permanently gone, and you will not be able to recover anything. It’s important to think carefully about whether you want to go through with deletion, as there is no turning back once it’s done. If you have multiple profiles, you can delete or deactivate all of them.

Users must know that Facebook allows a few days before final deletion, so if you log back in during this time, the deletion request will be cancelled. However, note that some data, like message history, may still be accessible by friends even after your account is deleted.

Facebook Cancellation Process

If it is been less than 30 days since you started your Facebook account deletion process, you can still cancel it. After 30 days, however, your account and all your information will be permanently deleted, and it will no longer be recoverable. It can take up to 90 days from the start of the deletion process for all your posts and data to be fully removed. While this deletion is in progress, your information will not be visible to other Facebook users.

However, some copies of your information may remain in backup storage beyond 90 days, primarily for recovery in case of a disaster, software malfunction, or other data loss. Additionally, Facebook may retain certain information for legal reasons, term violations, or efforts to prevent harm.

What Happens When You Delete Your Facebook Account?

If you permanently delete your Facebook account, you won’t be able to reactivate it, and your profile, photos, posts, videos, and everything else you’ve added will be permanently erased, with no way to retrieve it. You will lose access to Facebook Messenger, and any apps or websites you signed up for using Facebook Login, like Spotify or Pinterest, will no longer be accessible through your Facebook account, requiring you to contact those services to recover your accounts.

Additionally, some information, such as messages you have sent, may still be visible to friends, as copies are stored in their inboxes. If you use Facebook to log in to Meta Quest, deleting your account will also erase your Meta Quest information, including app purchases, achievements, and store credits, with no way to return apps or recover any credits.
