To qualify and be shortlisted for admission into degree or diploma studies, these are the minimum requirements for eligibility.

• Applicants having a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) must pass at least 4 subjects with a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.
• A South African Senior Certificate must be matriculated and must be endorsed
• Applicants holding non-South African school leave certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate.
• South African Senior Certificate undergraduate applicants to UNIZULU need to obtain 40% pass or above on a Higher Grade in English (First or Second Language) at the Senior Certificate level.
• South African NSC undergraduate applicants to UNIZULU must achieve a minimum rating of 2 (Elementary Achievement, 30-40%) or above at the Home Language or First Additional Language level.
